Romaine
Lettuce Seeds - Paris Island Cos
Paris Island
Romaine Lettuce Seeds are considered the standard Romaine lettuce
because it is very crisp and tender and extremely easy to grow.
Romaine lettuce is a
cool weather plant and can be started in early spring
as soon as the soil can be worked.
Our Romaine Lettuce seeds grow upright leaves that fold into neatly
well-formed heads. Romaine lettuce has dark green outer leaves with
lighter green lettuce leaves inside.
Select a sunny location and sow
Romaine Lettuce Seeds in early spring as soon as the soil can be
worked.
Prepare the area you are going to plant your Romaine Lettuce Seeds
by tilling or raking the area until the soil is loose. Remove all
weeds and rocks then rake your area level.
Sow Romaine
Lettuce seeds ¼" deep 2" apart. Plant every 2 weeks to extend harvest. Stop planting once the
weather starts getting too warm. Resume planting once weather cools
in late summer.
Romaine
lettuce has a longer growing season than most lettuces because it is
heat tolerant.
Romaine lettuce
can also be started indoors 4-6 weeks before your last frost and
transplanted outside in early spring.
Romaine lettuce does not do
well when transplanted on a sunny day. Wait until a cool cloudy
morning to transplant your romaine lettuce in the garden.
Romaine lettuce seeds
germinate in 7-10 days. Thin 8-10 inches apart when seedlings
are 2-3 inches tall. Keep moist until well established. 60 days to
maturity.
Harvest Romaine
lettuce from the garden as needed. Pick only a few leaves from a
plant at a time leaving the remainder to grow. When harvesting the
entire plant cut just above the soil line.
Romaine lettuce
is the standard lettuce used when making a Caesar salad and is very
high in vitamins A & C.
Each packet contains
½ teaspoon, approximately 450 Romaine Lettuce Seeds.
