Brandywine tomato seeds are fun and easy to grow. Why pay greenhouse
flat prices when you can start your own tomatos indoors for
a fraction of the cost?
The
Brandywine tomato is still considered to be the worlds best tasting tomato.
This Amish
heirloom dates back to 1885 and is a great canning
tomato. Its very productive, large and has an excellent sweet
flavor. Brandywine tomatoes are awesome in salsa, salads, hamburgers and
anything else you like to put a tomato on.
Brandywine Tomato leaves look similar to potato leaves as
do some of the older heirloom varieties. This variety is also an
indeterminate which means it produces until it dies. Fruits get up to
1½ lbs. and are somewhat creased with clear skin. Meat is light rosy
pink and wonderfully delicious.
Brandy Wine Tomato Seeds are best started early 4-6 weeks prior to planting outdoors.
Sow seeds ¼" deep in seed starting formula and keep moist. Seedlings
will emerge
in 7-14 days at 70-80°F. Transplant
to individual containers when seedlings have at least 2 pairs of leaves.
Before transferring to your garden, acclimate Brandywine tomato seedlings to outdoor conditions by
moving them to an outdoor location that gets filtered light during the
hot hours of the day. Gradually introduce them to full mid day
sun.
Sow Brandywine Tomato seedlings 2-3 feet apart after all danger of frost has past. Using a
trellis often increases yield and helps keep Brandywine tomatoes off the ground
where they are prone to disease and rot. Good air circulation around
all tomato plants also helps prevent disease.
90 days to maturity.
