Basil is a sweet versatile herb
that has very few pests. Best when used in anything containing tomatoes.
Both dried and fresh leaves are used in seasoning meat, poultry, fish
and pasta dishes and it is also the main ingredient in pesto sauce.
Basil smells just wonderful in the garden and is very easy to grow.
Sow outdoors after all danger of frost has passed and the soil is warm.
Plant 1/4 inch deep and 1 inch apart. Germination takes 5-14 days. Thin
to 8" apart when plants are 2" tall. 85 days to maturity.
Start indoors 6-8 weeks before transplanting outside.
