| Collecting and saving your own flower seeds can be very rewarding.
Not only does it save money, but you can collect many more seeds than you would probably
want to buy. Eventually you can grow huge beautiful lush flower gardens at a fraction of
the normal cost. First of all it is very simple. If you want
flowers do not cut them until you have established a big enough collection to keep you
satisfied.
What you have to do is just let the flowers go through their own
natural process. Once the blooms have dried, check the pods. The pods will be located just
under where the flower used to be. Usually there will be a "swelled up spot"
right in the center. This is the pod. Each type of flower has a different shaped pod. Once
the pods dry, they will open. The trick is to collect them before they open. Just watch
them. Once they turn dark and mostly dry they are usually ready.
After you collect the pods keep them in a dry place for a week or
so. Then open them. Remove the husks by dropping them from one container to another in a
slight breeze.
A little experience and you will be a pro, collecting many seeds
year after year. You can give them to your friends and family. Soon you will be trading
and collecting all kinds of flower seeds. You just won't believe how much fun you can
have! |
